Course Builder

Web Course Builder allows you to create an integrated set of lessons and tests as HTML files that can be delivered from any web site. Likewise, CD-ROM Course Builder allows you to create an integrated set of lessons and tests as Banks, and then creates Standalone Application that acts as a contents page.

Web Course Builder

  • Create a folder for your course on your computer.
  • Create your tests and lessons as Pages for a web browser and save them in your course folder.
  • Select Create Simple Contents Web Page from the Build Course submenu of the File menu (see above), and you will be asked to save a contents web page. Make sure you save it in your course folder. Question Tools will look through all of the folders and subfolders in your course folder and create a contents list.

If you want a contents list in your own style then you can create a screen with a Text Area containing the words Content List Here. Make sure this is the open screen at the front, and select Create Screen-Based Contents Web Page from the Build Course submenu. Your screen will be used as the basis for creating the contents page.

Web Course Builder also creates a CD icon, an autostart.inf file and a small application to load your web page should you wish to create a CD-ROM with HTML-based tests. If you are going to upload your files to a web server then you can delete the autostart.inf, CD icon and the start.exe file.

CD-ROM Course Builder

  • Create a folder for your course on your computer.
  • Create your tests and lessons as Banks and save them in your course folder.
  • Select Create Simple Standalone Application from the Build Course submenu of the File menu (see above), and you will be asked to save the application. Make sure you save it in your course folder. Question Tools will look through all of the folders and subfolders in your course folder and create a contents application.
  • Copy your course folder to CD-ROM.

If you want a contents list in your own style then you can create a screen with a Text Area containing the words Content List Here. Make sure this is the open screen at the front, and select Create Screen-Based Standalone Application from the Build Course submenu. Your screen will be used as the basis for creating the contents page.

If you wish you can miss out the Content List Here Text Area and just include instructions and a start screen. Standalone Applications include a Contents menu in addition to any on screen contents list, and your users may find this more convenient.

Unfinished warnings. When your users switch between lessons and tests in a course they will get a warning asking them if they are sure that they want to finish and move to another lesson or test. If you do not want these warnings to appear then make sure that Print the results and Save results options in the Results tab are not selected when you create each bank — this will ensure that the warnings do not appear.
